Thorn Athletic become full members of SCFA
Thorn Athletic has been admitted as a member of the Scottish Community Football Association (SCFA), formerly the Scottish Junior Football Association.
The decision was made at the organisation’s AGM held at Hampden Park. Thorn Athletic participated as guests in last season’s Scottish Junior Cup and will now take part in the newly renamed Scottish Communities Cup as a full member for the upcoming 2025–26 campaign.
The club enjoyed an outstanding 2024–25 season, securing back-to-back promotions by winning the West of Scotland Football League Third Division title and accumulating 64 points. They capped their campaign with a 4–0 victory over Wishaw, with Nathan McLelland scoring all four goals and goalkeeper Liam McWilliams keeping a clean sheet.
Thorn Athletic has so far confirmed the members of its squad for next season’s Second Division campaign. Striker Jay McKnight has signed on for another year, joined by midfield powerhouse Niall Cannon and versatile Greg Stewart. Experienced defender Ruairidh Clark has also committed, along with Callum Quinn, Jack Smith, Darren Jones, Aaron O’Hare, Ross Denny, Kieran Davies, Lewis Steele, Jamie Prete, and Cammy Dalling.
