West of Scotland Premier Division season preview: New faces and opening day showdowns
The West of Scotland Premier Division returns on Saturday 26th July with 16 clubs chasing glory and a chance to follow last season’s champions, Clydebank, into a new version of the Lowland League.
Last year’s runners-up Auchinleck Talbot, third-placed Johnstone Burgh and Troon (fourth) loom as early title challengers.
Four sides join the Premier Division this season. Arthurlie claimed the First Division crown, while Rutherglen Glencairn, Renfrew and Kilwinning Rangers all sealed top-four finishes to earn their place among the elite.
Matchday 1 kicks off at 2pm on Saturday 26th July:
• Arthurlie vs. St Cadoc’s – Newly promoted Arthurlie make their Premier bow at Dunterlie Park against a St Cadoc’s side keen to build on mid-table stability.
• Kilwinning Rangers vs. Johnstone Burgh – Kilwinning’s return to the top flight sees them host last season’s Scottish Junior Cup winners, Burgh, at Buffs Park.
• Auchinleck Talbot at Hurlford United – Talbot travel to Blair Park looking to hit the ground running under new manager John McInally.
• Pollok vs. Beith Juniors – Pollok open at Newlandsfield against a strong Beith side .
The remaining fixtures on Saturday afternoon read: Cumnock Juniors vs. Largs Thistle; Drumchapel United vs. Rutherglen Glencairn; Renfrew vs. Troon; Shotts Bon Accord vs. Glenafton Athletic.
