SMiSA funds new seats to boost St Mirren stadium capacity to 8,000
St Mirren Football Club has increased its stadium capacity to just over 8,000.
Funding from SMiSA members has helped add almost 40 new seats to The SMiSA Stadium.
The seats have been installed at the back of both the West Stand and the Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand. This upgrade means the stadium once again meets UEFA’s requirements for hosting group-stage matches in European competitions. Although the stadium met these standards when it opened in 2009, the installation of a disabled viewing platform in 2016 had reduced the capacity to below 8,000.
Following St Mirren’s qualification for the UEFA Conference League last season – and with regular sell-out home crowds – the club made plans to boost capacity. The new seats have now been fitted ahead of the 2025/26 season.
St Mirren Chief Operating Officer Keith Lasley said: “We are thankful to SMiSA and their members for their continued support. Funding for projects like this provides a real tangible benefit and showcases the working relationship between SMiSA and the club.”
SMiSA Board member Jim Cumming added: “SMiSA were approached by the club and asked if we could help support a couple of infrastructure projects around the club. Both would help increase the home support match day experience and help increase revenue into the club. We are delighted that the members have backed this proposal to install the additional seats and we look forward to working with the club to assist with funding future projects.”
