Brendan Rodgers resigns as Celtic manager

Celtic Football Club has confirmed that manager Brendan Rodgers has resigned from his position with immediate effect.

The club announced today that Rodgers tendered his resignation, which has been accepted, bringing an end to his second spell in charge at Parkhead.

A statement from Celtic said: “The Club appreciates Brendan’s contribution to Celtic during his two very successful periods at the Club. Brendan leaves Celtic with our thanks for the role he has played during a period of continued success for the Club and we wish him further success in the future.”

The process to appoint a new permanent manager is already underway, with the club set to update supporters as soon as possible.

In the meantime, Celtic confirmed that former manager Martin O’Neill and former player Shaun Maloney will take temporary charge of first-team duties while a long-term replacement is sought.
