Auchinleck Talbot produced a ruthless away performance to defeat Troon 5–2, with striker Connor Boyd helping himself to a second-half hat-trick.
Troon made the brighter start and went in front on 27 minutes when Lewis Lovering glanced home a header from a corner. The lead didn’t last long, however, as Kyle McAvoy levelled six minutes later before Ross Clark fired Talbot ahead on 39 minutes to make it 2–1 at the break.
Early in the second half the visitors seized control. Boyd struck his first on 50 minutes to extend the advantage, though Lovering responded with his second of the afternoon just before the hour to give Troon hope at 2–3.
That hope vanished quickly as Boyd restored Talbot’s two-goal cushion on 62 minutes, then completed his hat-trick four minutes later to put the game out of reach at 5–2.
Troon’s afternoon got worse when defender Gow was sent off for a last-man foul in the closing stages. There were further bookings for Docherty and Ferguson, while Talbot’s Neill McPherson and Ali Boyle also saw yellow.
Talbot’s firepower proved too much on the day, with Boyd the standout performer and Lovering’s double a small consolation for the hosts.
