Cup match will honour two Junior football legends
Junior football legends will come together this weekend to play a special match in tribute to two much-loved players.
The memorial game will see ex-players from Pollok and Arthurlie face off in honour of Iain Ashcroft and Steven Convery, who both won in the Scottish Junior Cup with their teams in the 1990s.
Steven Convery was a former Arthurlie striker who also played for clubs including Clyde and Hamilton Accies. He passed away suddenly in November 1998, aged just 22.
Iain Ashcroft, a defender for Pollok, passed away last November at the age of 52. He also played for Maryhill and spent a spell at Rugby Park with Kilmarnock.
This weekend’s memorial match is taking place at Newlandsfield, the home of Pollok FC, on Sunday at 2pm.
Money raised from the match will go towards the Iain Ashcroft Memorial Cup and to support local charities.
