Johnstone Burgh’s Scottish Cup journey came to an end at The Moore Equipment Hire Stadium, as Camelon Juniors edged out the visitors 1–0 in a fiery contest that saw Burgh finish with nine men.
The match began at a steady pace with both sides trading early half-chances. Darren Christie came closest for Burgh in the opening minutes, sending a strike just wide from outside the box. Camelon responded with efforts from Dean Watson and Jordan Kirkpatrick, though neither troubled Scullion in the Burgh goal.
Burgh had their best spell midway through the first half. Ian McShane’s free-kick on 26 minutes forced a superb save from Camelon keeper Dean Shaw, before Allan MacKenzie headed narrowly wide from a McShane corner. At the other end, Burgh defender Cammy Eadie made a vital block to deny Camelon a clear chance late in the half, ensuring it remained level at the break.
After the restart, MacKenzie again caused problems for Camelon’s defence but couldn’t find a teammate after rounding Shaw. Christie then came close with a powerful long-range drive that the Camelon keeper tipped over the bar on 61 minutes.
The game turned on 70 minutes when Burgh winger Aaron Mason was shown a straight red card for a high challenge. The decision appeared harsh, but it left Burgh facing a tough final 20 minutes with ten men.
Just six minutes later, Camelon took advantage. Graham Taylor found space in the box and fired a low shot beyond Scullion after a clever pass from Liam McQuaid, giving the hosts a 1–0 lead.
Burgh introduced fresh legs in the final stages, with Gilmartin, Lafferty, and McDonald coming on as they chased an equaliser. Gilmartin and Eadie both saw late efforts blocked, while Camelon missed a chance to double their lead when Taylor blazed over from close range.
Tempers flared again in stoppage time when Burgh captain Danny O’Neill was shown a second yellow card following an off-the-ball incident, reducing the visitors to nine men. Camelon’s Dean Watson was also booked moments later as the game grew heated.
Camelon held firm through four minutes of added time to secure their place in the third-round draw, while Burgh were left to reflect on missed opportunities and two costly dismissals.
