St Mirren started the game looking for their first win since beating Rangers on Boxing day, but instead slumped to their fourth defeat in a row.
The game could have gone the way of St Mirren had they not missed a number of chances. In the first half, Saint's Taylor had a header cleared off the line and they missed a number of chances to open their account. The Saints were clearly having the better of the first half. although their keeper Hemming had made a couple of good saves to keep United out.
The second half could have gone either way with both teams creating chances and when Olusanya was through one-on-one his shot was saved by the United keeper.
Then within a minute both teams hit the crossbar, but with the game drawing to a close at 0 - 0 up popped Louis Moult to score with an overhead kick, a goal worthy of winning any game, but the game was not finished yet and when Olusanya was fouled inside the United box it was a penalty to St Mirren.
Olusanya stepped up to take the penalty but again, Walton in the United goal saved his effort. Final score 0 -1 in favour of United. A result that sees United go 3rd in the league while Saints drop down to 7th.
