St Mirren went into today's game knowing that if they should beat Ross County and if Hearts were unable to beat Motherwell then the Saints could confirm a top six league finish for the third consecutive season.
St Mirren started well and had a few half chances before Ross County took a shock lead in the 22nd minute when Hale fired them in front from close range. Shortly after that County went close to scoring a second, however, Zach Hemming made a great save.
Thirty six minutes into the game Caolan Boyd- Munce drew Saint's level when he scored with a low shot from 30 yards into the corner on the County net.
Saint's settled into the second half and in the 50th minute Johan Ayunga took advantage of a mistake in the County defence to score from close range. 2 - 1 and the dream was on.
However with sixty three minutes on the clock County drew level when Jordan White headed in from a corner kick.
The dream was maybe slipping away, but Hearts still hadn't scored at Motherwell so Saint's knew that a late goal could still see them take sixth place in the league.
Roland Idowu replaced Mark O'Hara in the 81st minute and just five minutes later received a pass on the edge of the County penalty box to fire a shot low into the County net.
The score was now 3 - 2 and dream on again. Deep into time added on the crown let out a huge cheer. Hearts had dropped points at Motherwell, if Saints could hold on for a minute then it would be job done.
The referee duly blew the final whistle and the celebrations could begin. A fantastic achievement for St Mirren and a great afternoon for those Saints fans who were there to watch it.
