In the second minute, Tranent's Conor Doan was fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty that Dean Brett converted. Drumchapel United described the incident as the “worst possible start” on social media.
The situation deteriorated further for Drumchapel when Kevin Nicoll received a straight red card. With just 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Tranent's Conor Doan struck again as his free kick slipped under the keeper, extending Tranent’s lead to 2–0 against a 10‑man Drumchapel.
At the start of the second half, facing a mammoth task, Drumchapel continued to struggle. In the 68th minute, they pulled a goal back as David Hopkirk scored from the penalty spot to make it 2–1.

Matters worsened for Drumchapel when Callum MacKenzie was sent off for a foul while attempting to stop Tranent’s Ben Miller from scoring at close range, reducing them to nine men. A penalty was awarded again, and Dean Brett converted it to further extend Tranent's advantage.
On social media, Drumchapel expressed their frustration by writing: “Penalty to Tranent! Converted! Should never have been a penalty in a month of Sundays.”
At full-time, Tranent secured a two-goal advantage heading into the second leg. In a display of gratitude, Tranent later thanked their fans on social media: “Thank you to both sets of supporters for the incredible turnout! Safe travels home and we'll see you in the return fixture.”
