Auchinleck Talbot proved far too strong for Renfrew at Beechwood Park, running out 5–0 winners after a dominant second-half performance.
Renfrew actually started the game well and created a couple of good chances in the first half, but Talbot’s goalkeeper pulled off important saves to keep the score level. The hosts took the lead on 38 minutes when a cross to the back post was headed in by Kyle McAvoy.
Renfrew came out positively in the second half and were unlucky not to equalise. A Ferguson header was cleared off the line and Harwood twice went close, with one header dropping inches wide. Renfrew’s goalkeeper Danny also produced an excellent point-blank save to keep his side in the game.
Talbot doubled their lead after Renfrew lost possession high up the pitch and the hosts broke quickly to make it 2–0. From that point on, Talbot’s clinical finishing made the difference. Connor Boyd added a third on 69 minutes, McAvoy scored again on 80 minutes, and late goals from Austin Sime and Luke Main in injury time completed a difficult afternoon for the visitors.
Despite the scoreline, Renfrew’s performance for large spells was much better than the final result suggests, but Talbot’s quality in the final third proved decisive.
